Preservation Detroit and Focus Hope are hosting a community clean-up day at the James Smith Farmhouse, a log cabin that may date to the 1830s tucked away in Hope Village. (John Carlisle of the Detroit Free Press wrote a great story about the Smith House’s past and future last year.)
On Saturday, Sept. 30, from 9 AM – 2 PM, volunteers are invited to give the cabin a little TLC before the winter. We’ll be cleaning up debris in the building and on the lot, securing the doors and windows, and tidying up the landscape. This is a great chance to pitch in and to check out a hidden gem of Detroit’s 19th-century history while you’re at it. Sign up to volunteer here.
