Historic Indian Village Home and Garden Tour
June 11, 2017 @ 12:30 pm - 5:30 pm
The Historic Indian Village Home and Garden Tour Committee is pleased to once again host a TWO DAY tour in celebration of the successful restoration of its historic streetlight system.
The historic overhead streetlights were installed over 100 years ago, circa 1910, and they have recently been beautifully restored. Additionally, the Lighting the Future by Preserving the Past streetlight restoration project has been selected to receive the 2016 Governor’s Award for Historic Preservation. Please come and enjoy the beautiful homes, the neighborhood and the original “Detroit Style” streetlight in all its glory.
You can join us on either Saturday or Sunday or BOTH days to view 7 historic homes, 2 gardens, 3 churches, and 2 schools.
SATURDAY, June 10: 10:00am to 5:00pm
SUNDAY, June 11: 12:30pm to 5:30pm
The Historic Indian Village Home and Garden Tour is celebrating the 122nd anniversary of our elegant, historic neighborhood. This is the tour’s 44th year. It is the second oldest historic home tour of its kind in Michigan, preceded only by the Marshall Michigan Historic Home Tour.
Where do I redeem the advance tickets I just purchased?
Advanced purchases are redeemed on tour day at the Nichols Elementary-Middle School, 3000 Burns Avenue, only. Please print a copy of your receipt or bring a photo ID with you to pick up your tickets. Online tickets must be picked up at the Nichols Elementary-Middle School only, and only on the day of the tour!
Can I purchase a Guided Tour?
A limited number of guided walking tour tickets can be purchased for an additional $10 when you pick up your advance ticket purchases at the Nichols School. The tour should last a maximum of 3 hours. The guided walking tour covers five pre-selected homes and the first guided tour begins on Saturday at 10am with the last one leaving at about 12 Noon. Sunday’s guided tours begin at 12:30pm with the last one leaving at about 2:00pm. All guided tours are subject to availability and are on a first come, first served basis.
A bit more about Guided Tours: “The guided tour is a walking tour with an Indian Village guide. The guided tour takes about 3 hours. The guides provide information about the homes NOT on tour; of course the homes and gardens on the Tour will have information provided by the docents at each site. Tour groups consist of 10-15 people. The guided tour is not for the mobile challenged, although they can use the Tour shuttles if they wish.”
Where can I park?
NOTE: This year, parking within Indian Village will be restricted to only one side of the street.
AMPLE PARKING will be available at the Whittier, directly across the street from Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church (located at Jefferson & Burns Avenues). Shuttles will be available to bring you into the neighborhood.
Additionally, guests may park in the Nichols School parking lot at 3000 Burns as well as in the parking lot of Dr. Faber’s office at the corner of Jefferson & Seminole, but these lots are very small. Parking is also available at the Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church at the corner of Burns and Jefferson, for a suggested donation of $5.00 per car. These lots fill quickly and are on first come, first served basis – they are usually full well before the tour’s 10 a.m. start time.
*No liability for damage or theft is assumed by any of the institutions offering on-site parking on tour day.
Is this a walking tour?
Shuttles will run continuously between the houses for those that choose not to walk the neighborhood.
I bought a ticket and now I can’t make it. What do I do?
Between now and Thursday, June 8th, send a message with your refund request through the Eventbrite link. NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED AFTER THIS DATE. If you find you can’t make it after the refund date, tour tickets make great last minute gifts to friends & family!
Who can I contact with any Tour questions?
Please call (313) 922-1736 with any questions and a Tour associate will get back to you as soon as possible.
