International Preservation Trades Workshop

September 6, 2017 - September 10, 2017

The Preservation Trades Network (PTN) is an international not for profit orgaization in
its twenty first year. Its mission is:

“To empower the traditional building trades through network, good works,
community, fellowship and education.”

Each year the PTN holds a major gathering dedicated to sharing the skills and knowledge
of all the trades employed in the preservation of our built environment. The International
Preservation Trades Workshop (IPTW) is the only annual gathering of its
kind in North America, and has been held in sixteen different cities in the east and south
but never in Michigan nor the upper Midwest. Since 1997 carpenters, masons, metal
workers, painters, plasters, timber framers, roofers and practitioners of other traditional
trades from more than a dozen countries have come together to share their knowledge
and demonstrate their skills. Every IPTW draws a diverse audience of tradespeople, architects,
preservationists, students and homeowners. IPTW offers unique learning opportunities
for people of all ages, skill levels and preservation interests.

The 2017 IPTW will be held at Belle Isle State Park, Detroit MI on September
8th, 9th and 10th In addition to the 3-day IPTW, the PTN hosts multi-day Pre-Workshops which
provide learners the opportunity to focus on a particular trade and gain hands-on skills, while
completing projects for the host site.
