New Michigan State Historic Preservation Tax Credit Bill Introduced

Join and get involved with the MI Impact Coalition, as we work to bring back Michigan’s State Rehab Tax Credit.  Senate Bill 469 (S1) passed the Senate on December 13th. House Bill 5178 (HB 5178) has also been introduced to reinstate the Michigan Historic Preservation Tax Credit. These bills would reinstate the popular program that offers a credit of up to 25 percent of rehabilitation expenses against state income tax.

Heart Bomb Your Local Historic District

Dear Preservation Advocates,

Our local historic districts are special in so many ways—they help protect Michigan’s invaluable historic resources, contribute to a shared sense of place, and encourage economic vitality in our neighborhoods and commercial corridors.

Whether it’s your home, business, or simply a building you admire, join us in showing these local historic districts some extra love by “heart bombing” your favorite historic building!

Through this photo campaign, we hope to raise awareness of how many historic buildings in communities throughout the state would be threatened by proposed legislation HB 5232 and SB 720. For more information about the campaign including advocacy alerts, please visit our Advocacy Alert web page.

Follow these three easy steps:

1. Print the heart sign (download here) and display it prominently (in the window, posted outside, etc. for the whole world to see).

2. Take a photo in a local historic district!

3. Share online via Instagram, Facebook, and/or Twitter with the name of the local historic district and #SaveYourHD.
(Not on social media? Not to worry! You can also email the photo to

Looking forward to seeing your #SaveYourHD heart bombs!
